The Story of Chloro-pHuel™

I myself am a tropical plant and vivarium hobbyist, and Chloro-pHuel was originally developed for my own personal use. I wanted something specifically tuned to my hobby's needs, and because I keep dart frogs in bioactive vivariums, it needed to be inhabitant safe and misting system compatible.

Once I settled on a formula, Chloro-pHuel was born. However, at that time it didn't have a name, and I never had any intention of offering it for sale.

As I began sharing photos and selling my plants through Facebook and Instagram, I would regularly get asked the same questions:

“How do your plants look so healthy?” or “Teach me how I can get these results.”

The problem was that there wasn't a simple answer. It wasn't just a matter of telling them to buy a particular fertilizer and follow the directions on the bottle. I had developed my own solution and my own way of preparing it.

So rather than trying to teach fertilizer composition and water chemistry, I began offering people the solution I was already using myself.

I would prepare one-gallon bottles of my nutrient solution and send them to people so they could use the same thing I was using on my own plants.

Seeing other growers interested in something I had originally created just for myself was incredibly rewarding.

But there was an obvious problem.

I couldn't keep shipping gallons of liquid.

Eventually, I was told I couldn't continue mailing it that way. I could have simply stopped there, but by then I knew people genuinely wanted what I had made—and I wanted to find a way to share it with them.

That began a process that lasted roughly a year and a half.

Turning my solution into a dry product while keeping the qualities that mattered to me proved much harder than I expected. I didn't just want a bag of fertilizer that someone had to calculate, adjust, and hope they mixed correctly. I wanted it to be as simple and foolproof as possible.

I wanted the finished solution to be at a safe, gentle concentration and result in stable, suitable water chemistry. It needed to be a complete, all-in-one formula that included calcium and magnesium along with macro- and micronutrients.

It also needed to be formulated for use in inhabited enclosures and delivered through automated misting systems—without clogging misting ports or causing calcium deposits all over the glass.

There were a lot of problems to solve along the way.

Somehow, I found solutions to all of those problems.

Chloro-pHuel may now be a Vivaria product, but to me, it will always be something I originally created for myself.

And because it worked for me, I'm confident it can work for you.
